Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: Statues, Carvings, Sculptures

I’m trying to be better at, at least, participating in my three photo challenges every week.  I have not jumped in and posted for Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge in a long time.  I’ve missed it.  So, here I am to participating in this week’s challenge.  The theme?  Statues, Carvings, and Sculptures.

I wanted to use photographs of these four seasons sculptures, but I’m too lazy to find them on my external hard drive/any other backup.  I, apparently, didn’t post them on Facebook.  Oops.

So, you’re getting this photo because of my laziness… or, I guess I should say, my lack of free time.  It’s been months since I visited the Philadelphia Museum of Art, but this sculpture still sticks in my head.

Statue of Social Consciousness by Jacob Epstein

According to VisitPhilly.com, “The three parts of Social Consciousness are (left to right) The Great Consoler (or Compassion), The Eternal Mother (or Destiny) and Succor (or Death). Epstein was a controversial sculptor. Some critics said his distorted figures looked unnatural, while others praised them as timeless.”

I happen to think his figures look like aliens.  What do you think?

One day I’ll dig out the other photos and post them.  This will have to do for now!

I love to craft. I love to sew. I just.... love to create in general. I also am pretty fond of adventuring, of exploring new places. I'm shy when I first meet people, but once I'm comfortable with them, you can't shut me up. I'm crazy and silly. I have an unhealthy obsession with dinosaurs.

Oh my- Succor looks to be getting fresh with his human. 😉 Totally inappropriate, but it makes me think of the comment you made on your last post: is this sculpture porn or not porn? Ugh, I’m inappropriate tonight, sorry. Miranda, out.

    • pamasaurus says:

It would be ‘not porn’ because it’s considered art. It’s all about the intent 😉

I agree that it totally looks inappropriate, though. I think it’s one of the reasons I like it so much, haha.
