New Doctor

As I mentioned earlier, I had an appointment tonight with a new doctor.  I was seriously nervous.  I took Daniel with me in case I needed someone to stand up for me, but I ended up being just fine.

I gave the nurse my list of symptoms, along with my lab results from the last doctor and some printouts of my fitbit data and calorie count reports.  She read the first few symptoms, and started asking me questions.  “Are your eyes dry and itchy?”  “Do your joints hurt?”  Those are just two.  Every question she asked was something I could say ‘yes’ to.  Most are things I didn’t even think to write down.

She said that she believed it definitely wasn’t in my head.  She said that her sister, who was just diagnosed with PCOS, has a lot of the same symptoms.  The fact that she actually listened and believed me immediately helped me calm down.  The appointment was already going better than the past two.

She took all my papers and gave them to the doctor.  He read them and made notes before even entering the room.  He listened to everything I had to say and wrote it all down.

I like him, and he definitely made me feel at ease.  He had obvious anxiety issues.  I noticed his nervous tics, tics that I have myself.  He would mimic activities he was talking about, such as writing in the air when talking about writing me a referral.  He tapped his feet and stuttered a bit.  He also back pedaled a lot, like he was afraid of offending me.  For example, he was talking about the possibility of going to a psychologist.  He kept saying, “That’s if you want.  I don’t want to force you!”

I definitely liked him.

Of course, it didn’t hurt that he was wearing a Hawaiian shirt and cowboy boots.

He gave me some Cymbalta samples for my anxiety and depression.  He gave me enough for four weeks, when I’ll have a followup appointment.  At that point, we’ll decide if it’s working, and I’ll get a full prescription.  If it’s not working, we’ll try something else.

I’ll start taking that tomorrow.  I’m going to take it in the morning with the rest of my vitamins.  If it makes me sleepy, I’ll move it to the evenings.

He also referred me to an Endocrinologist to get all my hormonal levels checked.  So, I need to call tomorrow to make an appointment.  He also wants me to go to a GYN for the same reasons.  I guess so I get checked twice?  I don’t know.  I’ll see both, though.  I’d rather see too many doctors at this point than none at all.

I also have to get my butt in gear and see a psychologist/therapist/psychiatrist/whatever. He said this wasn’t a big deal at this point, but it wouldn’t be a bad idea.  I’m going to focus on the other two appointments, then start researching for this one.  It’s hard to find one that takes our insurance, which sucks.  It is what it is, though.

So, that’s where I’m at with the health stuff.  He has a list of stuff that he thinks could be wrong if the Endocrinologist and GYN do not find anything.

I definitely feel a lot better about life after this appointment   There are definitely still good doctors out there!

Thanks again, guys, for all your support!!

Thanks! I’m just glad I made some sort of progress. now I have to work on convincing the specialist that something is wrong. At least, maybe, the new medication will bring down the anxiety!

I understand those meds do make you sleepy for a few weeks until you get used to them, but taking them at night if they do sounds like a great idea!

Oh Girl, take the Cymbalta at night. My Mom is on them and if she takes it in the morning she is a Zombie all day.. Plus, it helps to have it already in your system when you start your day, that way you get off on the right foot. _<

i just want to try the morning because it’s easier for me to remember to take pills in the morning with breakfast, haha. I’ve heard mixed reviews, some people get sleepy and some get hyper. I’d rather be sleepy all day for a day or two than hyper at night. I hate missing sleep, hahahaha.

      Thanks, bfff ❤

I have a few friends that have PCOS, I could put you in touch with them if you want, let me know. I am happy you are getting some answers finally! What a relief!

Thanks for the offer! I have a few friends with it myself. Maybe if I am diagnosed with it, I’ll reach out to more people. I think I definitely want to wait until I get diagnosed one way or anything.

      Thanks! I’m really relieved 😀
