5to10k Week 2 Again

I spent the morning with Megan at the Berlin Farmers’ Market.  It’s not really a farmers’ market, though.  It’s more of a giant flea market.  There is a huge building filled with different shops, everything from dollar stores to vitamin shops.  The flea market portion is outside during the warmer months.

Thankfully they hadn’t closed it down yet.  I bought home a bunch of awesome things: some adorable kitsch Halloween figurines, a vintage teacup (I collect them), and some old blue cornflower Corning Ware.  I wanted a lot more than that, but the husband put his foot down.  I spent less than $20 on everything, though.  I think I did pretty well.

Now I’m going to work on a project, make dinner, and clean up.  After all that jazz, Trinity and I will be attending Mullica Hill’s Ghost Walk.  We are both pretty excited about this!  I love Halloween activities.

The real reason I’m writing this post, though, is to update everyone on my running.  I’m pretty proud and in awe of myself this week.

As you might remember, I was having serious motivation issues last week.  So, I decided to redo week 2 of my 5to10k program.  I gave myself a pep talk and told myself to stop being lazy.

So, I did.  I manned up and ran.  I kicked some serious butt.  During my first attempt at week 2, my fastest pace was 12:37 min/mile.  I somehow managed a 12:15 min/mile pace on Monday.  I was happy.

They finally added the distance version of my program.  I was hoping they would, because the timed version is based on a 10 min/mile pace.  I’m definitely a lot slower than that.  It was definitely helping me get my distance up, but I knew I wouldn’t get all the way to a 10k by the end.

I decided to give the distance version a go, and HOLY HELL.  I ran 4.16 miles on the timed version.  The distance version added up to 5.8 miles.  I managed to do it with a 12.14 min/mile pace.  So, I ran a whole mile longer and shaved a second off my pace.  I don’t even know how I managed that.  I didn’t feel any more tired at the end, either.

Yesterday, I managed to finish with a 12.08 min/mile pace.  I’m pretty awesome.  Seriously.  Well, I know that’s still not a great time for an average runner, but it is for me.  I’m slow, and I don’t care.  I’m doing it, and that’s all that matters.

Anyway… here are my run summaries for this week:

I’m giving myself permission to move on to week 3 now.  I’m going to keep up with the distance version.  So, I’ll be running three 1.8 mile intervals, which will be separated by .1 miles of walking.

Wish me luck.

Again, guys, I’m awesome.

  1. Why, yes – yes you ARE awsome! Hell, I couldn’t even crawl that far! 🙂 I love a good flea market. You’ve got to take pictures of the Halloween finds and post them – that way I can have my fix and not spend any money! 🙂

😀 I seriously didn’t expect to be able to make it through the whole distance run, let alone finish it at a faster pace! And, the doctors say I’m not working out hard enough 😉

Go check twitter! I instagrammed some photos of everything, and it posts to there!

or… facebook. Instagram posts to facebook, too 😉

I took pictures with my real camera, but haven’t uploaded yet.

Hey, good luck! You’re practically at 10k already – only another 1.12 miles to go, not including WU/CD 😀 I’m totally daunted by the 10k program. Once I finish C25k (next week unless I have to repeat a week) I’m gonna work on getting my pace down to around 7:00/mile.

The short walks might not seem like much, but I don’t think I could run the whole thing without them! I’m actually surprised by how easy it has been so far. Well, I did day 1 of week 3, and ugh.

I worked on my pace in between, but I have the attention span of a goldfish. I need the intervals to keep me interested it seems 😉 Although, my running app (rundouble, only available on android, though) had a ‘5k improver’ program now. It’s something like 16 weeks and helps you improve your pace through fartleks. I wish i would’ve seen that before starting the 10k program. I’ll probably go back to it at some point.

And, just because I need this to be the world’s longest comment:

I’d kill for a 7min/mile. I’m happy with a 12. I’m short, though (28inch inseam), so my strides are short. I’m also overweight. I’m happy as long as I’m doing it, because I’m faster than the people on the couch 😉

Thanks, and good luck to you, too!
