Maine Trip: Part 4

Thank you for tuning in for this final installment of our trip to Maine last week.  In this post, I will cover July 4th and the trip home.

So, I’ll just jump right in.  We didn’t do anything too, too exciting on our last full day.

I got my butt out of bed at about 4:30 am to take this photo of the sunrise.  So, you better appreciate it.  I am so not a morning person.  I’m more likely to still be up at that time than just waking up!

We spent the morning just hanging around the house.  Their town was having a parade, which Daniel’s dad and sister were set to walk in.  Trinity joined them.  Too bad it was raining!  Oh well, she still had fun!

The rain put the breaks on our planned cookout.  Instead, we took a drive to a cute little restaurant that my in-laws frequent, The Front Porch Cafe.  I had (surprise surprise) a cheeseburger, and it was delicious.  The restaurant was adorable, and Sammi, the owner, was super nice.

From there, we drove around a bit… through Mexico, Maine.  Haha.  I was amused.  We stopped at a park by a dam to stretch our legs a bit.

The weather had, thankfully, cleared up by then.  Daniel and I took the canoe out on Egypt Pond to look for loons.  This was my first time ever in a canoe.  I think it’s my new favorite thing, and I need to buy one ASAP.  It was a lot of fun!

We saw quite a few loons.  Do you guys know what a loon is?  It’s a bird with red eyes that dives under the water. This was my first time seeing one. Ever.

It was a day of first, I guess.

Yeah…. that picture isn’t so good.  I desperately need a stalker lens for my camera.

We stayed out for an hour or so, but it started to cloud up.  The rain was, unfortunately, coming back.  It was fun, though, and my arms were sore from rowing!

We spent the rest of the afternoon digging up plants to bring home: different types of lilies, some itty bitty baby birch trees, and some hemlock to use as a bush.  Unfortunately, we’ve been having a killer heatwave, so I’m not sure if they’ll survive the transplant.  Keep your fingers crossed.

Back on topic, though, we had planned to find fireworks that evening, but there ended up being severe thunderstorms with hail warnings.  So, we stayed in instead.

We headed out early on Thursday.  We stopped for lunch in York, Maine, at Ruby’s. I had the most delicious burger.  I know I ate a lot of those, but I had been craving them for months at this point. I probably won’t eat another for a few more months now.

We didn’t stop again, except for gas and potty breaks, until we reached Montoursville at around 8pm.  We grabbed some Wegman’s subs because they are delicious.

We left early on Friday to get back to Jersey.  The trip was very uneventful…. but it was so good to be home!  The furbabies were pretty excited, too, and I was excited to see them!

I’ll just leave off with one more, because it made me rofl every time I saw it.

Now I just need to get caught up on my everyday life!  For now, just a quick list:

• I’ve started redoing the couch to 5k program, but instead of run/walk, I’m running/running faster.  Then, I just add the extra bit at the end to make it a full 5k.  So, I’m finally, after thinking and talking about it for weeks, getting serious about increasing my speed.
• AA turned 21 yesterday.  Lots of fun was had.
• I’m hanging out with Megan today to work on some stuff.  More fun times!
• Today is my baby kittens’ first birthday.  I can’t believe how big they’ve gotten, and I miss their tiny baby faces.  It’s hard to believe that they couldn’t even climb one step when we brought them home.  Now they can get into any spot in this house.  I’m so glad we brought them into our family.  So, happy birthday Small Fry and Kitten McNugget!
